Puppy Love

They're here!! Lady gave birth to six, yes six, puppies this morning. We had no idea how many puppies that we would be having this time because we did not have an ultrasound beforehand. Lady had a litter of five last time, so we were expecting three or four this time. When I left for school this morning, there were four puppies. I came home to take her to the vet and there were five puppies.

I loaded her up to go to the vet and she didn't like that much. Lady doesn't really like you messing with her babies, but the vet likes to see her after birth to make sure that everything is okay. I took her to Dr. Haggard and he found that there was still a fetus in Lady's belly. He gave her pitossin (just like they give women to induce labor) and told me to call him if she had not birthed the last fetus by 2 o'clock. By the time I got home, Lady had given birth to the sixth and final puppy.

The kids of course are really excited. We just love having babies around! They look like little rats right now, but by the time they leave us, they will be furry little bundles of energy. Take a look at these pictures! We are so proud of our Lady dog! She is a good mommy! When I picked up the little puppy in my hand, you can see that Lady was not having that. She grabbed it by the foot to gently pull the pup back into her box.
