The Diagnosis Is In

Do I really have to make an excuse for not blogging for a couple of weeks now? Well, I could, but I am not going to. I have one word to explain my absence...LIFE.

So, I am sure you noticed the "unusual" title of today's blog entry. The diagnosis is officially in. I had a sinus infection for over two months. It started in November and I just stopped the antibiotics. My doctor ordered a CT to find out the cause of my recurring sinus issues. After finding a cyst in my maxiallary sinus, my doctor sent me to an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist.

Today I saw Dr. Evans and he believes he has finally found a reason for all of my sinus sufferings. I have a seriously deviated septum. For those of you who don't know, the septum is a piece of bone and cartalidge in your nose. Anyway, mine is so crooked that it very well may be the reason for all of my infections. The official remedy? Surgery. Yep, their gonna fix it. It is a pretty invasive surgery and will take about 6 weeks for a full recovery. And he said that he would remove the cyst while he is in there too. The cyst is not the cause of my problems, but as long as he is in there, he thought he should get it out. Due to the amount of recovery time needed, I have opted to wait until summer to have it done. I am hoping to have it done between the spring semester's end and the summer's semester's beginning. I have big school plans for the summer and the surgery can't be interfering with any of that.

I was excited to think I might get a "new nose", after all, Ashley Tisdale had a "deviated septum" fixed and her nose was was different after. My doctor however, was quick to correct that what Ashley Tisdale called a deviated septum surgery, was in fact rhinoplasty. My nose will remain very close to what it aslready is. There may be a change in my voice and a very minor change in the way my nose looks, but over all, I will be the same Carissa. My hopes have crashed to the ground. Ha Ha! Oooh and get this...they are going to use liposuction in my nose. Isn't that funny? I wouldn't have chosen that as the first place to have that done, but I guess I'll take it since insurance won't pay for it anywhere else on my body.

Anatomy class is going well. It is pretty challenging. There is a lot of memorization of terms, but I seem to be keeping up for now. I had my "bone" exam on Wednesday and I think I did pretty well. I think I got them all right, but I won't know the official score until Monday. There were 40 bones/bony markings to identify. It included knowing if the bone was a right or left. I think if I messed up anything, it was the right and left part. Some of them are kind of tricky and since I confuse my own right and left hands all the time, it could have very well been my downfall on this particular exam.

I have included some pictures of our recent trips to the snow. We went on January 19th and again on January 26. It was beautiful and we had a wonderful time. I hope you enjoy the video of me wiping out (scroll to the end)!
