Here We Go Again

I woke up this morning with a sore throat. I was sure it was just a little post nasal drip. By lecture I was sneezing and congested and by this evening, I was curled up on the couch with body aches, a headache and what I am officially calling a sinus infection. Now, as you know, I cannot afford to get sick right now. I have school, which is sucking the very life right out of me. This afternoon, I called my doctor to get in and stop this thing before it gets too bad. But wouldn't you know, the doctor had left for the day and the Nurse Practitioner that is usually there on Fridays is on vacation. It looks like I will be headed in to a walk in clinic tomorrow. I have to kick this thing now, before school starts up again on Monday.

The quiz I had today went well. I am pretty sure that I got a 10 out of 10 on it. I would like to thank the academy and my DH who put up with my horrible mood last night as I struggled through a self-taught crash course in chemistry.

We did get to do some pretty cool experiments and exercises during my lab this morning. We looked at Escherichia coli (E. coli) under the microscope, as well as Staphylococcus epidermis and some yeast. And I learned that yeast is a living organism. I don't know why I didn't know that, but I didn't. Then we took pitri dishes and did some testing on our hands, more specifically, clean hands versus dirty hands. We put them in the incubator to see what grows between now and Monday. Oooh, we should have swabbed my nose, I bet there is some funky stuff growing up in there right now. It's pretty crazy that we are actually handling these live bacteria without gloves. We have to make our own slides for observation. It's a lot of fun, but I feel like I need a good scrub down one I leave. I usually scrub my hands really good so that I can eat my snack on our ten minute break between lab and lecture. I wouldn't want to ingest that stuff.

Speaking of ingesting, we had a great dinner tonight. My hubby grilled up some steaks. It's too bad that I didn't feel much like eating. My throat is so sore and my sinuses are just so mucked up. Who knows, maybe I'll lose some weight! Shouldn't there be at least one upside to being sick?
