Gettin' Down and DIRTY

On Saturday, my husband helped our dear friends, Rachel and Manuel, put together a new play set for their back yard. It was quite a chore. They didn't actually get it finished on Saturday. But, this story is really all about the kids. They needed something to do to keep them busy while Rachel and I headed out shopping, so they found something to do. Since the concrete pad in Rachel and Manuel's backyard has not been poured yet, there is a huge dirt area. I don't mean just dirt, it is that really fine, dusty dirt. The kids found their shovels, buckets, wheelbarrows and other toys of the sort and got to work moving dirt. I have never seen my kids so dirty. I know that they really had a wonderful time. They crawled in it. They sat in it. They dug in it. They poured it on each other. As most of you know, I carry a camera in my purse at all times, and it is times like these that it really pays off!
Manuel and James were working under the patio cover to avoid the sun as much as possible during their assembly of the play structure. Preston was checking the status and quality of their work periodically and told his dad several times that he didn't think the piece they added would fit through the opening. Of course, Preston was rebuffed and sent to play. He checked back in and stated his concern about the size of the piece that they would have to move off the patio. Once again, he was sent away to play. To make a long story short, Preston was right. In order to get the piece off the patio, Manuel and James had to disassemble a portion. The moral of this story is, sometimes we should listen to our kids!
In other news, Natalie seems to be doing quite well in fourth grade. She entered a picture in the Tulare County Fair this year and won first prize! It looks like we have quite the artist on our hands. I haven't actually seen the picture yet, but I am hoping to see it soon. Hopefully I can post it on the blog when I get a hold of it.
Finally I would like to say that Elliot has to be the most battered looking kid in the world right now. She got a black eye this week from falling against the arm of the couch. She went to Preschool the next day and hit the same eye on the door frame of the classroom, leaving her with a small scab. On Friday night, she went to her grandparents' house and cut her leg. This girl is tough! I am sure she has had more bangs, bruises and cuts than both the other two children combined. Which brings us to
Elliot's Quote of the Day
"I have blood on my leg. It's blood for Jesus."
You are never to young, or old for that matter, to hear about the blood of Jesus Christ. My three year old understands that Jesus shed His blood for her. Sometimes this comes out in a weird fascination with blood, but nevertheless, I am glad to know that the basics are in her heart. I am so thankful that Jesus' blood covers all. Thank you Jesus!
