The Little Drummer Boy

Preston has always loved the drums. He is truly the Little Drummer Boy. I can remember him barely able to walk, making his way to the front of the church to beat on the drums. He is constantly beating something in the car or using pencils as his sticks, keeping beat with the music. His love for the drums has been set aflame by the parade on Saturday. Since the parade, he has been in his room beating the fire out of his little electronic set. On Saturday afternoon, he was carrying a little drum around, complaining that it didn't have a strap. I think it may be time for him to get a real set. We shall see. Christmas is coming.

Can you believe that? Christmas is just around the corner. Time is flying by so quickly. I feel so busy and I already have a knot in my stomach thinking of all that needs to be accomplished by the end of December. The knot is my stomach is only made worse when I walk into a store and see Christmas items everywhere. Can we get through Halloween first? Every year the Christmas stuff comes out earlier. Do they not know the anxiety that this causes for some? Even when I get things done early (which I seem to be good at) I feel like I will never get it all done.

On top of Christmas, I have a term paper to do for my nursing class. I think I am bipolar, because while I usually insist on getting things done early, I can't seem to bring myself to even begin the research for my paper. It seems like such a daunting task. I am officially procrastinating, which by the way, does not help that knot in my stomach. I should really get to work on this. Maybe Friday I will drag myself to the library and begin gathering sources for my paper on the Japanese culture and their health and illness practices and beliefs. Sounds interesting doesn't it?

Okay, here is my official "rant" for the week. I am going to entitle this "The Horrible Conditions of Room 154." I am in a history class on Monday and Wednesdays at C.O.S. that meets in room 154. This room is upstairs, has a huge window that the morning sun comes pouring through, and no individual room temperature control. Factor in, there are approximately 40 to 50 students in this class, all of which produce heat, as a natural function of their body. I said all of this to say, it is really hot and humid in that room. On mornings that it is cool and crisp outside, you walk into the room and a wall of hot, muggy air smacks you in the face. It is horrible. The lectures, which aren't bad, are lengthy. The class is an hour and fifteen minutes long. I just have to say, the conditions of Room 154 are almost unbearable. I would have said they are unbearable, but the fact that I have succeeded in sitting through all of the classes so far, proves that they are in fact bearable.

The Bachelor is on the television tonight. I usually watch in on Tuesdays though, so don't tell me what happened if you see me before I have watched it. But I am telling you this because, although my husband thinks the Bachelor is getting old, I don't. I realize that in Bachelor history, there are very few couples who have stayed together, but I don't watch it in hopes that one day this guy and this girl will grow old together. I watch it because, it never ceases to amaze me when these girls do stupid stuff to impress the man that they all "love" so much. I mean really, they barely know him. Yet, after a couple of dates, they are professing undying love and devotion (I realize two dates was probably the extent of James and my courtship, but we are not talking about me right now!). It cracks me up to see what they say to each other, what they say to the camera and what they say to the Bachelor. It's like a train wreck...you can't not watch. And, if we are all being really truthful, it makes us feel a little bit better about ourselves. It's natural to say, "well, I know I am not that stupid." So, if you watch it for no other reason, watch it to feel good about you!

I Hate It When...
My kids are sick.
They turn into whining, crying messes. Elliot had a fever yesterday, but is feeling better today. Praise the Lord! Preston is still on antibiotics for his ear and sinus infections, but is feeling much better. He is back to tormenting his sister, so that is a good sign of health.
